Heat index could approach 100 Tuesday as students head back to school

Southeast Wisconsin will close out August with heat, humidity and a few chances for storms.

Monday is expected to be one of the hottest days of the month, with highs climbing into the upper 80s. The humidity will make it feel even warmer, with heat index values reaching the mid-90s.

Scattered storms are possible early Monday morning, followed by another chance for pop-up storms during the afternoon.

The overall severe weather threat is low, but a few stronger storms could produce damaging winds and large hail.

The heat becomes an even bigger concern Tuesday as many students head back to school.

High temperatures will approach 90 degrees, with the heat index nearing 100 in parts of southeast Wisconsin. A few afternoon storms will also be possible.

Temperatures ease slightly during the second half of the week, but storm chances remain in the forecast through Friday.

The Labor Day weekend is looking quieter and more comfortable, with highs near 80 and lower chances for rain.
