47-year-old arrested after allegedly shooting adult son in the leg, Danville police say
(WSET) — The Danville Police Department said an arrest has been made following a domestic-related shooting incident.
Police said a man is in custody in Georgia following a domestic-related shooting incident early Sunday morning in the area of Newton and Craghead Streets.
Around 4:25 a.m. , on Sunday, the Danville Police Department learned that Derrick Brown, 47, of Georgia, fired a single shot at his 26-year-old son, hitting him in the leg after an argument. The 26-year-old Danville resident was treated and released from SOVAH Health, police said.
According to police, Brown fled in a vehicle and was later arrested in Georgia following a traffic stop conducted by Georgia State Patrol (GSP). He will be extradited back to Virginia.

Police said he is charged with:
- VA Code: 18.2-51 – Malicious Wounding
- VA Code: 18.2-56.1 – Reckless handling of a firearm
- VA Code: 18.2-280 – Discharge firearm in a public place
- VA Code: 18.2-308.2 – Possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon
- VA Code: 18.2-53.1 – Use of a firearm in commission of a felony
