Egg Harbor Township Man Gets 3 Years for Attacking Corrections Officer
- Unique Tyson was sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison

Mays Landing, N.J. — An Egg Harbor Township man is headed back to prison for attacking a corrections officer while he was being detained at the Atlantic County Justice Facility last year.
On Tuesday, 29-year-old Unique Tyson was sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act. He previously pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree aggravated assault.
Jail Attack Leaves Officer Unconscious
On April 19th, 2025, while Tyson was detained at the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing, he attacked a correctional officer who was trying to provide medication, according to the prosecutor's office.
The officer was hit over ten times in the facial area and lost consciousness. The officer, who was unable to defend himself, was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Tyson was incarcerated at the time after pleading guilty to second-degree possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute and was awaiting sentencing.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Unit prosecuted the case.
