Cancer in Iowa: 99 Counties Project
A public meeting is planned for September in Le Mars to discuss cancer in Plymouth County. The September 2nd meeting will be held starting at 5 p.m. in the Le Mars Community Middle School library. The initiative is titled Cancer in Iowa: 99 Counties Project.
The meeting will include a presentation by staff from the Iowa Cancer Registry to discuss the project’s findings, address cancer concerns specific to our community and explore changes to support healthier behaviors.
One of the presenters will be Whitney Zahnd, PHD, Past-President of the Iowa Rural Health Association and Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa Department of Health Management and Policy.
Zahnd says the meeting is open to the public and will include an open discussion.
She says this is an opportunity to hear community concerns and gather feedback that could inform future cancer control efforts.

Round Barn Display Has New Additions
Plymouth County fairgoers will see some new additions to the display in the historic round barn. Janelle Johnson, Vice-President of the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee says the committee chose to focus this year on “local flavors and farm adventures.”
She told KLEM they also added to the farm equipment photo display started last year.
Favorites like the bee exhibit and Jim DeBoer’s wooden tractor display will also return.
Johnson encourages everyone to visit the Round Barn while attending “the Best 5 Days of Summer.”
The Le Mars Chamber Community Coffee will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) morning in the Round Barn, where visitors can get a sneak peek of the displays the day before the fair officially opens.
