SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 35-year-old Southfield man suspected in a fatal shooting at a TGI Fridays parking lot was released pending a charging decision by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, Southfield police said.
The incident occurred on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, when officers said they responded to a report of shots fired at about 11:25 p.m. at the restaurant at 26299 Evergreen Road.
Police said they found a 58-year-old Inkster woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
A 54-year-old Detroit man was also shot and hospitalized in serious but stable condition, police said.
A third victim, a 42-year-old woman from Evans, Georgia, suffered gunshot wounds to her upper left shoulder and bicep.
She was taken to a hospital by private transportation and was listed in stable condition.
Police previously identified the 35-year-old Southfield man as the suspected shooter and took him into custody following the incident.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman who died and the suspect were both valid Concealed Pistol License holders.
Police said firearms were displayed during a verbal altercation in the parking lot.
The two surviving shooting victims were bystanders and were not involved in the altercation, police said.

Following the investigation, the Southfield Police Department submitted a warrant request Sunday to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review and a charging determination.
Police said they could not continue holding the 35-year-old man solely while awaiting the prosecutor’s decision.
He was released Monday (Sept. 7) pending the prosecutorial review.
The warrant request remains with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether to authorize criminal charges and, if so, which charges are appropriate based on the evidence and applicable law.
The investigation and prosecutorial review remain ongoing.
