ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - FIRST ALERT 7 Forecast for Thursday, July 30th, 2026: The heat wave continues across West Texas and southeast New Mexico to wrap up July. Slight rain chances return to parts of West Texas and southeast New Mexico by Saturday.
THURSDAY & FRIDAY HEAT
Heat levels will remain elevated this afternoon, with widespread triple-digit highs expected across West Texas and southeast New Mexico. A heat advisory goes into effect this afternoon and continues through this evening across the Mountains and Presidio Valley. Daytime highs will range from the upper 90s in the Mountains to 105° in the Rio Grande River Valley. Midland and Odessa are forecast to hit 99-100° by 5 PM. Ensure that you take breaks indoors and drink plenty of water.
Expect much of the same on Friday, with highs 1-2 degrees warmer for most locations. A heat advisory goes into effect for Eddy County as well.
THIS WEEKEND
Temperatures will moderate by a few degrees this weekend, but very warm conditions will continue in the 90s. Expect partly cloudy skies and a slight chance (30-40%) of storms on Saturday.
NEXT WEEK
Widespread triple-digit heat returns on Monday of next week, with “milder” temperatures throughout the rest of the week. Some areas will be in the mid-90s by the end of next week! Continue to take proper precautions: stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and stay inside if possible.
