MEMPHIS, Mo. — A northeast Missouri boy did something remarkable when he took the Missouri Assessment Program test, called the MAP test, for short.
Chandler Harris, 10, of Memphis, is a 5th-grader at Scotland County Elementary.
When he took the mathematics portion of the state test this past spring, he achieved a perfect score.
That means Harris correctly answered all 50-some questions.
"On the MAP test, I got a hundred percent, and I was really excited and surprised when I got my score.” Harris said.
"He's always kind of blown us away by his intelligence ever since he was real little, and you know, it's not a surprise, said Ryan Bergeson, Ed.D., Scotland County R-1 Schools’ superintendent. “He's very intelligent, a good student, and our teachers work really hard and do a good job with the kids and his intelligence definitely shined through on the results of that test."
Harris said his fellow students’ reaction to his achievement has been very positive.
"I've just been walking down the hallway, and they're like, 'Congratulations,' and I'm just like, 'Thank you!'"
The superintendent told KTVO that even the school district's most veteran teachers cannot recall any student ever achieving a perfect score on any section of the MAP test.
The school recently honored Harris with a special certificate for his amazing accomplishment.
