A shelter-in-place order was issued early Friday morning for parts of suburban Oswego due to an "active scene" stemming from a welfare check, with a large police presence and residents asked to avoid the area.
The Oswego Police Department posted about the order on social media at 5:33 a.m. According to police, there was an active scene in the 500 block of Colchester Drive, with a shelter-in-place issued for a one-mile radius of the incident as a precaution.

"There is a heavy police presence," the post said. "Please avoid the area."
In an update posted in the 6 a.m. hour, Oswego police said a report led officers to a welfare check at the address. When officers arrived, a firearm had been discharged inside.
"The individual is believed to be the only one inside the residence," the update said. "No injuries have been reported at this time."
Some schools and bus routes in District 308 were initially affected, including Traughber Junior High, Southbury Elementary School and Prairie Point Elementary School.

Just before 7 a.m., police said the shelter-in-place was still in effect but that the radius had been reduced to a quarter mile around the area, and that school buildings were no longer impacted. Police encouraged parents to contact Oswego Community Unit School District 208 with updates.
