Allen County superintendents discuss challenges facing local schools
LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Rotarians got an update on the state of education in the area.
Ten Allen County superintendents took part in a roundtable discussion about issues they are facing in education.
No matter the size of the school district, many face similar challenges, including changes to the state property tax and how to continue providing a quality education with funding shortages.
The superintendents also talked about something business leaders are all too familiar with: staffing shortages.
“We have a huge shortage of teachers in the state of Ohio. It used to be just select areas, like physics, where it would be very difficult to find qualified educators. But now it’s across the board. So, we really need to figure out a way to get good quality young people interested in the profession of education,” said Craig Kupferburg, superintendent of the Allen County Educational Service Center.
The superintendents also addressed the good and bad of using artificial intelligence in the classroom.
