As students around the region prepare to return to the classroom, Kentucky lawmakers are focusing on their safety. A new bus safety law has gone into effect, allowing school districts to install stop-arm cameras in addition to clarifying when drivers must stop for buses.
Districts can enter contracts with camera vendors for the bus to monitor and capture traffic violators at no cost towards the district. Stop-arm cameras are optional, allowing schools to decide whether to implement them. David Hale, Kentucky representative and the bill’s primary sponsor, said schools should consider getting cameras installed.
