2 hospitalized after shooting in west Phoenix neighborhood

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Two people are in the hospital after a double shooting in a west Phoenix neighborhood early Sunday morning.

Just after 2 a.m., first responders were called to the area of Harmont Drive and Royal Palm Road, near 39th and Northern avenues.

When officers arrived, they found a person suffering from a gunshot wound in front of a nearby home, according to the Phoenix Police Department. They later found a second person who also had been shot.

Both people were taken to a nearby hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

Police say they detained a person of interest in connection with the shooting, though it’s unclear how they believe the person is connected.
