Body of Florida woman missing out of Andalusia found Sunday
ANDALUSIA, Ala. (WSFA) - The body of a Florida woman who had been reported missing from an Andalusia campground was found late Sunday afternoon, according to police.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency on Saturday issued a Missing Person Alert for 67-year-old Linda May Krieger, of Fort Myers, Florida. She was last seen at a campground she and her husband were staying at on Brooklyn Road.
The Missing Person Alert was canceled Sunday, and the Andalusia Police Department confirmed Krieger’s body had been found around 4:30 p.m.
Krieger’s husband had reported hearing her walk out of the couple’s RV around 6:20 a.m. Saturday. Officers initially noted that Krieger might have sought a ride back toward Fort Myers.
Andalusia police said Krieger suffered from Alzheimer’s, with sundowning symptoms, as well as bipolar disorder.
The Covington County Sheriff’s Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency assisted with the search, and her body was found in “rough terrain” near the campground, authorities said.
“Mrs. Krieger’s husband could not have been more cooperative with the investigation,” APD Capt. Brett Holmes said in a press release.
Her body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy, which is routine in a case like this, APD said.
“Our prayers are with her husband and their family,” Holmes said. “To have this happen any time would be difficult. To have it happen when you are away from home, friends and family no doubt made it more difficult.”
