SCOTUSblog founder Tom Goldstein will remain in prison as appeal continues

SCOTUSblog co-founder Tom Goldstein will remain in prison as he continues to fight his felony convictions, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at Richmond, Virginia, ruled late Wednesday, according to Law360.

Goldstein was convicted in February on tax and mortgage fraud charges and later sentenced to six years in prison. In an unsigned order, the 4th Circuit rebuffed Goldstein’s request for release pending appeal from the Petersburg Federal Correctional Complex in Hopewell, Virginia.

The appeals court also denied his request for expedited consideration of his appeal, along with his request to be allowed to submit briefs with expanded word limits, which he said was necessary because of the “factually and legally complex prosecution” in his six-week trial, Law360 reports.

Representatives of Goldstein and the Department of Justice could not immediately be reached for comment late Wednesday.
