SDSC upholds conviction in child rape case.SDSC upholds conviction in child rape case SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(Dakota News Now) - According to South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, the South Dakota Supreme Court has affirmed the convictions and sentence of a defendant convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a young child.Tell Cadotte was found guilty of 9 counts of first-degree rape and 1 count of sexual contact with a child under sixteen.Evidence showed that Cadotte raped the child while the child was in his care multiple times over the span of two years.Electronic devices recovered from the defendant’s residence contained images depicting the abuse.Cadotte was sentenced to 70 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary for the rape convictions and 10 years for the sexual contact conviction.“This defendant repeatedly victimized a child and documented that abuse,” said Attorney General Jackley.“The circuit court handled the trial exactly as the law requires, and the Supreme Court correctly affirmed those rulings.This dangerous offender will remain in prison where he cannot harm another child.” The defendant appealed, making the argument that the circuit court should not have included certain sanitized photographs and that testimony from a detective constituted hearsay, but both of these arguments were rejected, and the Supreme Court affirmed the conviction and sentence.Copyright 2026 Dakota News Now.All rights reserved.
