MEDIA — The Delaware County Health Department has announced its fall influenza vaccination clinics.
DCHD will hold five clinics, including one drive-through, and support two additional community clinics throughout late September and October.
The department will also continue its standing immunization clinic hours at its Wellness Centers in Chester and Yeadon. Through these offerings, DCHD is working to make flu vaccination as convenient and accessible as possible before the winter months, it said.
“As we head into flu season, now is the time to get vaccinated,” said Lora Siegmann Werner, county health director. “The flu can be serious, but vaccination is a safe and effective way to reduce the risk of severe illness. I also want to remind all Delaware County residents that we have free respiratory testing resources, rapid home tests and laboratory tests, for flu, COVID-19 and RSV available at DCHD’s five Test and Go public health kiosks located throughout the county.”
Seasonal flu vaccination is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. Vaccination is especially important for older adults, young children and people with chronic health conditions.
Free flu clinics are open to Delaware County residents ages 3 and older. No appointment or insurance is required. Residents are encouraged to wear short sleeves so vaccinations can be administered easily.

DCHD is also supporting the second annual Hat Trick for Health at the Lansdowne YMCA on Saturday, Oct. 17, from noon to 4 p.m. Giant Pharmacy will administer respiratory vaccines for flu, COVID-19 and RSV to eligible individuals.
On Sunday, Oct.18, DCHD and its Wellness on Wheels Mobile Health Unit will participate in the Darby Community Health Fair at 884 Main St., Darby, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flu vaccines will be available for eligible individuals.

Fall bingo events announced
• St. Madeline Parish will hold Cash and Gift Card Bingo at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 in the St. James School Gym, 500 Tome St., Ridley Park.
Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. The event is BYOB and snacks and everyone must be at least 21 years old to attend.
Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door and include 10 rounds of bingo and a ticket for a door prize. For information, call St. Madeline’s at 610-532-6880.
• Trivia and cash bingo to benefit the IAE Foundation will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Brookhaven Municipal Building at 2 Cambridge Road and in Suite 100. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Players can bring their own food and drink.
Tickets are $30 and include four cash bingo rounds and five trivia rounds. Group discounts are available. A 50/50 drawing and raffle baskets will also be available.
The IAE (Individuals Aiding in Emergencies) Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in Delaware County, established in 2017, to help those in the local community facing unexpected situations. IAE focuses on building community relationships and addressing hygiene insecurities by distributing essential household goods, personal hygiene and baby care products through partnerships with community organizations.

• Upper Chichester Senior Citizens will present a fun day of cash bingo at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Doors will open at noon.
The event will feature 10 games for $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Two specials will be for sale that day, as well as tickets for a 50/50 drawing and raffle baskets.

• The Delaware County Advocacy and Resource Center (DCARO) in Swarthmore will hold a fundraising bingo, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 in St. Gabriel Parish Hall, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood, for cash prizes. Tickets cost $35.
The event will include opportunities for cash bingo prizes, raffle baskets, and a 50/50 drawing. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be available to purchase, but players can also bring their own snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Delaware County to observe National Save a Life Day
The Delaware County Department of Human Services Office of Drug and Alcohol Services is partnering with the Delaware County Health Department to participate in National Save a Life Day, a nationwide initiative dedicated to preventing opioid overdose deaths through education, awareness, and the free distribution of naloxone.
Observed annually on the fourth Thursday in September, National Save a Life Day brings together communities across the country with simple but powerful goal: put life-saving naloxone into the hands of as many people as possible while increasing public awareness about overdose prevention.
On Thursday, Sept. 24, Delaware County will support naloxone distribution efforts across as many municipalities as possible, helping to increase access to this lifesaving medication throughout the community. Residents are encouraged to call the DCHD Wellness Line at 484-276-2100 to find a naloxone distribution location near them.
Throughout Delaware County, treatment providers, recovery organizations, and community-based organizations will host distribution sites where residents can receive free naloxone (commonly known as Narcan®). By working together with our community partners, we are helping ensure that this life-saving medication is available where it’s needed most.
Naloxone is a safe, easy-to-administer medication that rapidly reverses the effects of an opioid overdose by restoring normal breathing while emergency medical services are on the way. It is effective in reversing overdoses involving opioids, including fentanyl, heroin, and prescription opioid medications.
Residents are encouraged to visit participating locations throughout Delaware County to receive free naloxone, educational materials, and information about local prevention, treatment, and recovery resources.
