McCool Junction man arrested after York County Sheriff’s Office says he assaulted a deputy
Sheriff’s office says domestic disturbance call led to standoff, minor injuries
MCCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (KOLN) - A McCool Junction man is in the York County Jail after deputies say he assaulted an officer during a domestic disturbance call Tuesday.
York County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in McCool Junction early Tuesday morning after receiving a report of an armed domestic disturbance, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office says deputies arrived, surrounded the home and got a child out safely. They then told everyone remaining inside to come out.
A woman inside the home came out, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies then tried to arrest 70-year-old Max Rea. They say Rea resisted, tried to shut the door on deputies as they came in, and hit one of them in the face with the door, injuring the deputy.
A physical struggle followed before Rea was arrested, the sheriff’s office says. Both the deputy and Rea suffered minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Rea was booked into the York County Jail on charges of terroristic threats, child abuse, use of a firearm to commit a felony, resisting arrest, assault of a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.
The sheriff’s office says it received help at the scene from the Nebraska State Patrol, the McCool Junction Volunteer Fire Department and the York Fire Department.
