Mid-State Technical College to receive $5 million federal grant

SBA officials to present manufacturing funding Monday at Stevens Point campus

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Mid-State Technical College will receive a $5 million federal grant next week to support manufacturing, trades and technical assistance programs across Central Wisconsin.

Senior officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration will visit the college’s Stevens Point campus on Monday, Sept. 28, to formally present the award.

The funding comes through the SBA’s Manufacturing in America E2G Grant Initiative. It will go toward workforce development, advanced skills training and technical business growth assistance for regional manufacturers.

SBA Associate Administrator Lisa Shimkat is scheduled to present the grant. She will speak on federal efforts to assist small manufacturers with hands-on training, technical resources and initiatives aimed at reshoring domestic manufacturing jobs.

The presentation is scheduled for 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Mid-State Technical College, 5000 Coye Drive in Stevens Point.
