Graham died suddenly on July 11 from a tear in his aorta, according to preliminary medical examination findings.
Before his death, Graham had spent much of his life serving in one way or another. His Senate biography states that he served in various capacities in the U.S. Air Force starting in 1984, not officially retiring from the Air Force Reserves until June 2015. At that time, he had achieved the rank of Colonel.
