Heat settles back over north Georgia this week
Heat index values near 100 degrees expected through Labor Day
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A heat wave is moving back into north Georgia this week, bringing oppressive temperatures that will impact your commute, outdoor plans, and daily activities.
Highs will climb into the mid 90s with heat index values climbing near 100 degrees.
The heat will be relentless through the end of the week and into Labor Day weekend. While there’s a slight chance of afternoon showers each day this week (20% coverage), don’t count on rain to cool things down. Most of us will stay dry, and any storms that develop will be isolated.
Monday through Friday
Highs in the mid 90s with heat index values near 100 degrees. Afternoon rain chances at 20% — most areas will remain dry. The heat will feel oppressive, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Labor Day Weekend
The heat continues into Saturday and Sunday with highs staying in the 90s. Rain chances increase slightly to 30%, but again, most locations will stay dry. If you’re planning outdoor activities for the holiday, plan for hot conditions.
How to stay safe
- Limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day — don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
- Check on elderly neighbors and family members.
- Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces.
