D’Iberville Middle School student wins national math title at Beta Club Convention

D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (WLOX) — A D‘Iberville Middle School student is being recognized nationally after placing first in the math division at the National Beta Club Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, this summer.

Sixth-grader Logan Le competed against students from 18 states at the convention. As he advances to seventh grade, Le takes the national title with him.

Beta Club sponsors Tamara Bangs and Patricia Bramlett said students must qualify at the state level before advancing to nationals.

“They have to have good academic standing, they have to have good behavior, and we really mentor them and encourage them to be good stewards, growing our school community and being positive people,” Bangs said.

Logan’s mother, Lynn Le, said her son has always had a passion for learning and numbers.

“Whenever he started talking, his favorite phrases were either numbers or letters,” Le said. “He really wouldn’t like to give you full conversations, but he was really fascinated with numbers. We started seeing it a little bit more when he turned two or three, he started doing math equations.”

Logan described his experience at the convention in his own words.

“I went to Nashville for my math competition, and then I took my math test at the convention, and then I won first place,” Logan said.

Beta Club sponsors said a few other D’Iberville Middle School students qualified for nationals in other divisions, including eighth-grade history and creative writing, but were unable to attend due to other extracurricular activities.
