McFarland man arrested for 7th OWI, Sun Prairie man arrested for 5th OWI
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Dane County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two people for felony OWIs that happened on Monday.
According to the sheriff’s office, a McFarland man was arrested for his seventh OWI.
Deputies found a truck and trailer in a ditch off Highway 138 before 10 p.m. in the town of Rutland.
The sheriff’s office explained that the 61-year-old man showed signs of impairment.
The man was booked into the Dane County Jail on a felony OWI charge.
Earlier in the day, a 49-year-old man from Sun Prairie allegedly left the scene of a crash in the town of Springdale.
According to the sheriff’s office, the crash happened on Messerschmidt Drive and CTH G and deputies found the man in a nearby wooded area.
The man was arrested for his fifth OWI and felony bail jumping. He is being held at the Dane County Jail.
Wisconsin law enforcement will begin the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign on Aug. 19.
“When we see drivers with multiple OWIs, we know there are likely substance use disorders at play,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. “We recognize that treatment and recovery are part of breaking this cycle, but we also have to hold impaired drivers accountable for putting lives at risk.”
The event, which raises awareness and prevents drunk driving, ends on Sept. 7.
