Rodric Lynn Squier, 79, formerly of Camden, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Sebring, Florida.
Rod was born on October 22, 1946, in Frankfort, Indiana, to Walter and Marjorie (Cook) Squier. A graduate of Cutler High School, he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a member of the 25th Infantry Division. In 2009, Rod became a disabled Army veteran.
For many years, Rod worked as a truck driver for Crete-Trucking. He also enjoyed helping the Overholser family during planting and harvest seasons while living in Carroll County.
Few things brought Rod more joy than drag racing. The Squier family spent many years at Bunker Hill Drag Strip, where Rod became a familiar voice as the track announcer. He later served as an announcer at ORP Drag Strip in Indianapolis. Following the heartbreaking loss of his son, Eric, in 1999, Rod honored his memory by racing Eric’s dragster, keeping his son’s passion alive on the track.
On August 20, 1994, Rod married the love of his life, Sandy Douglas, at Adams Mill. Together they built a life centered on family, and two years ago they fulfilled a longtime dream by moving to Winter Haven, Florida, to leave the snow behind and enjoy retirement.
Rod was a member of Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge No. 211 in Camden. Those who knew him understood that while he often had a rough exterior, beneath it was a kind, caring, and generous heart that deeply loved his family and friends.
Rod is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Squier; his mother, Marjorie Squier; stepsons, Rory A. (Shanna) Griffis, Kevin W. (Anna) Walters, Michael Griffis, and Christopher Griffis; sisters, Jane Squier and Jackie (Paul) Harber; and grandchildren Bryce Smyth, Chloe Smyth, Gabrielle Griffis, Dominick Sharp, Mason Griffis, Hailey Morgan, and Draydon Griffis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Squier, in 1981, and his son, Eric Squier, in 1999.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Cutler Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Rod’s Life will begin at 1 p.m., with burial to follow at Ball Hill Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cutler Presbyterian Church.
