The point is, do something. I hate saying this in mid-August, but summer is basically over. Election season is upon us. As Loki says to his brother in The Avengers: “There is no stopping it. There is only the war.” To which Thor responds, defiantly: “So be it.”

Court rules against stupid ballroom
A divided federal appeals court ruled Friday that President Donald Trump’s administration must stop construction of the $400 million White House ballroom because Congress has not approved the project, a decision he blasted as “unjust” while vowing to appeal it to the nation’s highest court.
Trump doesn’t have the unilateral authority to build a 90,000-square-foot (8,400-square-meter) ballroom where the White House’s East Wing stood before he ordered its demolition last fall, according to the decision by a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Still, with this fucking ballroom. Man, when this asshole gets something in his dementia riddled child brain, he just does not let it go ever.
Schools can remove confederate names in VA
- On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Michael F. Urbanski ruled the Shenandoah County School Board violated federal civil rights laws by reinstating Confederate names to two schools, ordering the board to promptly remove the monikers.
- The board’s 2024 decision to revert Mountain View High School to Stonewall Jackson High School and Honey Run Elementary to Ashby-Lee Elementary prompted the NAACP lawsuit, despite board members claiming they were honoring community sentiment.
- Urbanski determined the renaming was racially motivated, noting schools were originally named in 1959 and 1974 to resist federal integration rules, and found reinstating these names inflicts “real, racially disproportionate harm” on Black students.
- In a statement Friday, the NAACP Virginia State Conference called the ruling “a decisive victory” for students, while Kaitlin Banner, deputy legal director at the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, affirmed the court’s recognition of harm.
Seems like a problem that should no longer exist, but here we are. Good for the courts. Again.
Judge strikes down wind farm blockade
The U.S. Department of Defense has for months refused to conduct routine military evaluations of proposed onshore wind farms, creating a de facto moratorium on the clean energy source at a time of exploding electricity demand.
On Thursday, a federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump ordered the agency to resume its reviews — and put an end to that freeze on wind projects. The preliminary injunction requires the DoD to report to the court on its progress every 30 days while the legal case proceeds.
As they continue to try and stop renewable energy progress, it will just proceed whether they like it or not.
MD redistricting to go before the voters
Maryland’s Democratic-controlled Legislature voted Tuesday to place a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would pave the way for it to eliminate the state’s lone Republican-held congressional district before the 2028 election.
The move came after months of divisions among Democrats over whether they should redraw the state’s congressional map in response to GOP redistricting efforts across the country.

VA to restore voting rights to ex-felons
Gov. Abigail Spanberger has restored voting and other civil rights to more than 60,000 Virginians since taking office in January, reversing the more restrictive restoration process adopted by her predecessor and reopening voting access for thousands of people with past felony convictions, her administration said Friday.
The 66,085 Virginians whose rights have been restored may now vote, serve on juries, run for public office, and become notaries public. The announcement comes about seven weeks before early voting begins for the 2026 midterm elections, which include a constitutional referendum that could largely remove Virginia governors from the restoration process.

Abortion rights protected in KS
A Kansas judge took a sledgehammer to a slate of abortion restrictions dating back to 1997, ruling the state came up short in arguing the Kansas Legislature should be able to impose waiting periods, mandate abortion reversal disclosures and require doctors to obtain patients’ reasons for seeking an abortion.
Christopher Jayaram’s 260-page decision, written while he was still serving as a Johnson County District Court judge, came at a canny moment. He was sworn in as a Kansas Supreme Court justice hours after issuing the opinion Monday and voters across the state were set to answer a ballot question Tuesday that could change the way Supreme Court justices are selected.
So happy to see abortion rights being protected even in red states.
