Injured Police Officers Fund launches fundraiser for family of 30-year-old Marine Corps veteran
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A candlelight vigil is planned for Friday at 7 p.m. at Police Memorial Park in the northwest valley to honor fallen Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer Austin Abdelnabi, who was killed in the line of duty this week.
Abdelnabi, 30, was a Marine Corps veteran. He is survived by his wife, Sage, his parents and his siblings.

Fundraiser launched for family
The Injured Police Officers Fund says it has launched what it describes as the only official fundraiser for Abdelnabi’s family, with proceeds intended to cover funeral costs and other expenses following a line-of-duty death. The nonprofit says every dollar raised will go directly to his family.
The organization was founded in 1984 to provide financial support to officers injured or killed on the job.
“The mission of the Injured Police Officers Fund is to provide support through financial means if the officer is injured in the line of duty or, in this instance, killed in the line of duty,” said Lt. Charles Jivapong of the Injured Police Officers Fund. “We bridge that gap to allow the families to grieve and not worry about the financial struggles.”
Vigil open to the public
The vigil at Police Memorial Park is open to everyone, not just law enforcement. Organizers said they have already received donations and offers to volunteer from individuals, businesses and organizations.
“We’re hosting a candlelight vigil for Austin’s family at the Police Memorial Park,” Jivapong said. “We want to show that the Las Vegas Valley can come together to show the grieving families that we’re standing by them during this troubling time.”
