This past week, I attended GunCon. Among all the industry events, it stands out to me as the best. I have a close connection with Jon Patton of TGC and Cody Hinton, who host and organize the event, but this is an objective opinion: if you’re a firearms enthusiast, you really should be there. People travel far to attend. Whether you’re there to check out your favorite brand, discover a new one, attend panels, or meet your favorite Gunfluencers, GunCon is the place to be. It’s also become a hotbed for new and interesting products, whether from established brands or new startups. There’s always something interesting to see. One that caught everyone’s attention was the One Horse Express.

Factory-Tested Performance

The One Horse Express Series is built on a simple idea—to deliver a rifle that’s ready to run right out of the box. Each rifle, manufactured in Brownstown, Indiana, leaves the factory with an Atrius Forced Reset Selector (FRS) professionally installed, timed, and tested before it reaches the customer. According to One Horse, installing a Forced Reset Selector isn’t always straightforward, and improper setup can lead to reliability issues (ask me how I know this…). By handling the fitting and tuning at the factory, One Horse eliminates the guesswork and ensures shooters spend their time on the range shooting rather than troubleshooting.

Built Around Proven Components

The flagship model in the series, the 16-inch 5.56/223 One Horse Express Rifle w/ Atrius FRS. The Express combines a factory-tested approach with a carefully selected set of components. The rifle features a 16-inch 4150 CrMoV SOCOM-profile barrel with a 1:8 twist rate, a mid-length gas system, 7075-T6 aluminum receivers, and a 15-inch M-LOK Free-Float Rail V3.

Additional upgrades include a Breek Arms WARHAMMER Mod2 ambidextrous charging handle, a THRIL CCS adjustable stock, a THRIL RS pistol grip, an H2 buffer, an M16-profile black nitride bolt carrier group, and a 30-round THRIL magazine. The Atrius FRS offers Safe, Semi, and Super-Semi positions, defining the rifle. Early reviewers praised the platform’s reliability and out-of-the-box functionality, noting smooth operation with no tuning required. It weighs 6.5 pounds unloaded.

Zooming Out

The One Horse Express is currently available in limited supply at a promotional price of $999.99, down from its listed MSRP of $1,199.99. This one was one of the most fun guns to shoot at GunCon. As far as reliability goes, it kept on running, no matter how many different people shot it. Get it while you can.
