Set in Toronto between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the series has confirmed an official premiere date for its 20th season, featuring an all-star guest ensemble that includes a Gilmore Girls alum.
Based on Maureen Jennings' iconic detective novels, Murdoch Mysteriesfollows the meticulous, charismatic Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), who uses innovative forensic methods to uncover the killers behind Toronto's most brutal murders at the start of the 20th century. Season 20 will, of course, see the return of Bisson's Murdoch alongside fellow returning stars: Thomas Craig as Chief Inspector Thomas Brackenreid; Lachlan Murdoch as Constable Henry Higgins; Kataem O'Connor as Constable Teddy Roberts; DanielMaslany as Detective Llewellyn Watts; Shanice Banton as Chief Coroner Violet Hart; Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Inspector Albert Choi; Arwen Humphreys as Margaret Brackenreid; and Clare McConnell as Crown Attorney Effie Newsome.
That said, Murdoch Mysteries Season 20 premieres in the U.S. on October 5, 2026, on Ovation TV, per TV Insider. Featured in the stellar guest cast are Dancing With the Stars pro Emma Slater, Jason Mewes of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Yanic Truesdale of Gilmore Girls. Ennis Esmer, James Chatto, Kristian Bruun, and Hamza Haq also guest star.
