Multi-agency drug investigation leads to seizure of 1.5 pounds of meth in Lackawanna Co.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A multi-agency drug investigation has led to the arrest of a Lackawanna County man after investigators say they seized large quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms during a search of his home.

Thomas Hazelton, of Clarks Summit, was taken into custody Thursday in Scranton following an investigation led by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop R Vice Unit, the Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office Drug Unit, the Scranton Police Department Street Crimes Unit, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to investigators, officers later executed a court-authorized search warrant at Hazelton's residence on Milwaukee Road in Newton Township.

Authorities said the search uncovered approximately 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine, about one pound of processed marijuana, 5.4 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms, roughly $6,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

The criminal complaint states Hazelton is charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Investigators allege the methamphetamine, marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms were intended for distribution.

In a statement, Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher credited the collaborative effort among local, state and federal agencies for removing what he described as a significant quantity of illegal drugs from the community.
