Services announced for longtime Birmingham radio host Binnie Myles
Services have been announced for Binnie Myles, a longtime Birmingham radio host, public relations professional and civil rights advocate who died Aug. 27 at the age of 81.
Myles hosted a weekly community affairs program called Perspective on the Move on WAGG Heaven 610 AM.
The station's Vice President of Programming J. Michael Francois said he saw her Aug. 26 when she was recording her show for the upcoming weekend. He said he was shaken by the unexpected news and was working to prepare a tribute to her.
Myles was known for serving as a communication bridge between the community and local businesses. She worked with Birmingham radio personalities including Shelley Stewart and nationally syndicated host Tom Joyner.
She also played a leadership role with the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and worked in public relations for many years, including with the then Birmingham Water Works for several decades, retiring from the utility in 2015.
Her family said Myles informed, encouraged and uplifted generations and had a gift for making people feel seen, heard and valued.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 5 at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.
Public viewing will be held from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4, and from 10 a.m. until the service begins Sept. 5.

The family is asking those attending the celebration of life to wear something purple, Myles’ favorite color.
Arrangements are being handled by Arrington Funeral Home.
