South Florida is seeing another cycle of king tides, bringing the potential for continued coastal flooding through Monday.
Fort Lauderdale Police on Sunday morning tweeted that flooding had resulted in the closure of A1A from East Sunrise Blvd to Northeast 14th Street.
WSVN reported king tide-related flooding this weekend at Hollywood’s Broadwalk, in parts of Fort Lauderdale, and near NW 79th Street and 10th Avenue in Miami Dade.
High tide measured at Broward’s Port Everglades on Sunday measured about 2 feet more water than normal high tide, according to the Miami Herald.
Robert Molleda, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service’s Miami office, told the Herald that the flooding was an “above-average” event.
The floodwater was expected to recede midday Sunday before high tide returns about 9:30 p.m. and again on Monday morning.
Sammy Hadi, lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami, reminded drivers that salt water can damage their cars if they drive through it. “You do not want to drive your car through it,” Hadi said.
