3 Connecticut court cases to watch: Murder lawsuit, legislator threats and a kidnapping trial.Connecticut court cases to watch this week include a former Norwalk landlord being sued by the family of the man she was convicted of murdering, a Rocky Hill man accused of threatening Democratic state lawmakers and a Harwinton man accused of kidnapping and beating a woman.Ellen Wink Evidence in a personal injury lawsuit filed by Kurt Lametta’s estate against his former landlord, Ellen Wink, is expected to begin on Tuesday.Advertisement Article continues below this ad Wink, a former Norwalk official, shot and killed 54-year-old Lametta on Jan.20, 2022, during a confrontation at the Nelson Avenue rental home.The case went to trial and, after less than three hours of deliberations, a jury found Wink guilty of murder and criminal lockout on June 20, 2025.She was sentenced to serve 50 years in prison back in September.She is appealing her conviction and has also filed a habeas corpus petition challenging her conviction.Wink previously served in the mayor’s office in Norwalk and most recently was the Republican deputy registrar of voters.She was fired after her arrest in connection with Lametta’s death.Advertisement Article continues below this ad Want more Norwalk Hour?The civil trial is scheduled to start on Tuesday at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.Testimony is expected to take about two-and-a-half weeks.Wink acknowledges that she shot and killed Lametta, but, as she did during her criminal trial, claims that she did so in self-defense.Lametta’s family is seeking unspecified monetary damages.Robert Pabich The Rocky Hill man accused of threatening 10 Democratic state lawmakers, and committing a hate crime against one of them, has a plea hearing scheduled Tuesday in state Superior Court in New Britain.Advertisement Article continues below this ad Robert Pabich faces charges of electronic stalking, disorderly conduct and second-degree intimidation based on bigotry or bias stemming from online remarks he allegedly made after state Sen.Matthew Lesser, D-Middletown, posted a photo of him and other lawmakers at a “No Kings” rally on Oct.“Take note of this picture.Everyone of these pieces of trash need bullets shot directly into their faces,” Pabich said in a comment on Lesser’s social media page that also included a lewd remark and references to “illegal immigrants,” according to the police report.He also allegedly made what police described as threatening, antisemitic slurs and intimidating comments to Lesser, who is Jewish, on that same social media page.Pabich was released on a $25,000 bond and put under an extended risk protection order following his Oct.24 arrest.Advertisement Article continues below this ad Brian Hogan Jury selection will begin Monday at state Superior Court in Torrington for the trial involving a Harwinton man accused of kidnapping, beating, choking and threatening to kill a woman at gunpoint in 2024.Brian Hogan, 52, has been held on $560,500 bond since his arrest in September 2024.He is facing charges of home invasion, first-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault.He pleaded not guilty, according to court records.Hogan told police the woman had summoned him in the overnight hours of Sept.16, 2024, to Harwinton.The woman denied the claim, police said, saying she locked her doors and windows, and was trying to distance herself from Hogan.Advertisement Article continues below this ad The woman said she awoke to find Hogan pointing a gun at her, police said, and holding a tire iron in his other hand.Hogan then ordered her to head south driving his red truck, according to a warrant.Hogan threw her cellphone out the window near the Thomaston Dam, police said, and the phone was later recovered by a police K-9.The woman escaped when they stopped at a New Haven gas station, police said.Advertisement Article continues below this ad
