Bringhurst Man Sentenced For Cyberstalking In Federal Court

Prosecutors say he sent hundreds of unwanted texts

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WLFI) - 20-year-old Caleb Bonnell, of Bringhurst, Indiana, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Cristal C. Brisco to 36 months in prison and 2 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to cyberstalking, U.S. Attorney Adam L. Mildred announced Tuesday.

Prosecutors say from September to December of 2025, Bonnell sent hundreds of unwanted texts, contacted the victim’s school, messaged classmates on social media, posted a threat online, and carried out “swatting” by making false reports that sent police to the victim’s home.

The case was investigated by the FBI, with assistance from Carroll County Police and San Diego Police, and prosecuted by AUSA Lydia T. Lucius.
