Two arrested after large amounts of suspected fentanyl found at home in Meigs County, Ohio
POMEROY, Ohio (WCHS) — Two people were arrested following what deputies said was "an extensive ongoing drug trafficking investigation" in Meigs County, Ohio.
The arrests took place at a residence in the 1600 block of Lincoln Heights in the village of Pomeroy on Thursday, according to a social media post from the Meigs County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they executed a search warrant at the residence, where they encountered seven people and multiple dogs. The search produced "clear indicators of drug use and drug trafficking," such as digital scales, packaging materials, money and multiple packages of suspected fentanyl, according to deputies.
A concealed bag that had a significant amount of suspected fentanyl inside was located within the undergarments of 31-year-old Dashawn James, of Columbus during the search, deputies said. James was taken into custody and taken to the Southeast Regional Jail. Upon arriving at the facility, deputies said more suspected fentanyl was found on James, allegedly inside of a body cavity.
Deputies said James faces the following charges:
- Conveyance of illegal substances into a detention facility
- Tampering with evidence
- Trafficking in drugs
- Possession of drugs
Codie Young, of Pomeroy, was also arrested at the scene and charged with permitting drug abuse, according to deputies.
The post said the other five people were released at the scene pending further investigation.
"Our detectives and deputies remain relentless in identifying and dismantling drug-trafficking operations in our community," Meigs County Sheriff Scott Fitch said in the social media post. "I commend our team for their diligence and hard work in keeping these dangerous substances out of Meigs County."
Deputies said more charges are expected after a formal review by the Meigs County Prosecutor's Office.
