Kansas City church provides free haircuts, supplies in back-to-school giveaway

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - As back-to-school season officially gets underway, local organizations are stepping up to help students secure last-minute supplies before the new school year begins.

On Saturday, the Blue Ridge Church of Christ in Kansas City hosted a community event, giving out essential school supplies, toothbrushes, food, and even providing free haircuts for students.

Organizers said the event is aimed at building up local youth and ensuring they have a positive starting point for the school year.

“The community is everyone that we can affect, that we can touch, that we can reach out here, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” organizer Andre Tillmon said.

Church leaders said they hope families left the event on Saturday feeling supported, adding that the doors at Blue Ridge Church of Christ remain open to anyone in need of help or guidance.
