New Sweden will see an increased law enforcement presence Friday as investigators continue searching for Stefanie Damron, a teenager who has been missing for nearly 2 years.
Damron was first reported missing on September 24, 2024. She was last seen walking from her home into the woods near West Road in New Sweden
Maine State Police said the increased activity is part of the ongoing investigation into Damron’s disappearance. Detectives continue to follow up on information and leads and conduct what police described as proactive investigative efforts.
Police have not disclosed whether the activity involves a new lead, a specific search location or a new development. Police said they can't provide specific details because the case remains active.
State police and the FBI have previously conducted extensive searches in the New Sweden area, including searches with the Maine Warden Service and K-9 teams. Investigators have also followed leads in Maine, other parts of the country and Canada, according to Maine State Police.
A public search organized by Damron's family was also held in July. Earlier searches have covered thousands of acres of northern Maine wilderness.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to Damron's safe return or to the arrest and prosecution of anyone involved in her disappearance.
