Former Centerville mayor sentenced to life in prison for triple homicide.Former Centerville mayor sentenced to life in prison for triple homicide SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(Dakota News Now) - A Centerville, SD man has been sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of three people in 2024.65-year-old Jay Ostrem was sentenced on Thursday, May 14, at the McCook County Courthouse in Salem.He’d been found guilty of three counts of First-Degree Murder in March.The sentence comes from a triple homicide from May 27, 2024, at a residence in Centerville.The victims in the murders were identified as: - 26-year-old Paul Wyland Frankus - 21-year-old Zachary Frankus - 35-year-old Timothy Richmond “This sentence provides justice for the families of the three victims who we keep in thoughts,” said Attorney General Jackley.“These complex cases could not have been successful without the tireless efforts of law enforcement officers and prosecutors.” The case was prosecuted by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and the Turner County State’s Attorney’s Office.Copyright 2026 Dakota News Now.All rights reserved.
