SLED: Man shot at 2 Columbia police officers before he was killed
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting Saturday in Columbia that left a police officer and the shooter dead.
Columbia Police Department officers responded to Southeast Park on Hazelwood Road regarding a domestic violence call, according to SLED.
Officers came across a man armed with a gun in the parking lot of Southeast Park.

Adam Tyler Dowdy, 33, was later identified as the suspect, authorities said.
Dowdy tried to run, and officers followed.
Officers started shooting after Dowdy shot at two officers.
All three men were shot and taken to a hospital.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified Columbia police Officer Christopher Delong, 29, and Dowdy as the two people who died from their injuries at the hospital.
The Columbia Police Department identified the other wounded officer as Master Police Officer David Dymock, 29.
Authorities said Dymock was released from the hospital in stable condition and is recovering.
The Columbia Police Department requested that SLED investigate the shooting.

SLED said the investigation is ongoing and no other information has been released.
The incident is the 24th officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in 2026 and the first involving the Columbia Police Department this year, according to SLED.
There were 45 officer-involved shootings in South Carolina in 2025.
The Columbia Police Department had no officer-involved shootings last year.
