The LKSD Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Jason Hlasny as the District’s next Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026. The Board extends its sincere appreciation to all community members, staff, students, and stakeholders who participated in and supported the Superintendent search process.

The Board conducted a comprehensive search beginning in December 2025, attracting 11 applicants from across Alaska and the United States. The process culminated in finalist interview activities in Bethel on February 26 & 27, including forums with staff, students, and community members.

The Board then interviewed finalist candidates and reviewed feedback submitted through a public survey as part of its final deliberations.

At its February 27 special meeting, the Board unanimously approved Mr. Hlasny’s appointment.

Of the selection, Board President Clarence Daniel said, “Our superintendent search began with the review of a dozen applicants, the most we’ve ever had in all our searches. The field was narrowed down to four very qualified candidates that had roots professionally or personally to the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta. It was a very difficult decision, but we feel confident in our final choice. The board carefully considered information from our stakeholders in making this decision and would hope our school community feels a sense of ownership in the process. The board is grateful for input received from staff, students and community members. The board would like to thank the Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) and Tiffany Jackson for their assistance in our superintendent search. The board looks forward to working with Dr. Hlasny on continued improvement to education for the students of the Lower Kuskokwim School District.”

In accepting the position, Dr. Hlasny shared the following statement:

“I am honored and humbled to be selected to serve as the next Superintendent of the Lower Kuskokwim School District. Thank you to the Regional School Board and to the families, staff, tribal leaders, and community members who place their trust in our schools. I am also grateful to my own family for their unwavering support and encouragement as I take on this responsibility. LKSD serves communities rich in culture, language, and resilience. I enter this role with profound respect for the people and traditions that define this district and with a clear commitment to student success.”

Dr. Jason Hlasny currently serves as Director of Special Education Instruction for the Anchorage School District, providing districtwide leadership for instructional programs, services, and systems supporting student success. Previously, he served as Director of Charter Schools from 2022–2024 and has held a range of leadership and professional roles in the Anchorage School District since 2003.

Dr. Hlasny began his Alaska education career in the Lower Kuskokwim School District as a School Psychologist from 2000–2003. He holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the University of Wisconsin–Stout, the University of Alaska Anchorage, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Capella University.

The LKSD Board of Education contracted with the Association of Alaska School Boards to facilitate the Superintendent search process.
