VAN BUREN -- Formal charges were filed Tuesday against a Van Buren man accused of of rape and sexual abuse of a teenager.
James D. Mullens, 38, of Van Buren was arrested Aug. 16 on suspicion of rape, traveling for the purpose of sexual acts with a minor, computer exploitation of a child and tampering with physical evidence, according to Crawford County Detention Center records.
According to court documents filed Tuesday with the Crawford County Circuit Court, Mullens is facing charges of rape, producing, directing or promoting a sexual performance by a child, traveling for the purpose of an unlawful sex act with a minor and tampering with physical evidence.
All four charges are felonies, court documents state.
The accuser is a juvenile, but is not younger than 14 years old, Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney Denis Dean said in August following Mullens' arrest. The incidents that led to the charges against Mullens occurred in Van Buren, Dean said.
A status hearing on the case is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 15 before Circuit Judge Marc McCune, court documents state.
Mullens remained in the Detention Center on Friday with his bond set at $1 million bond, according to the Crawford County Detention Center jail roster.
