Carrot Top ‘s legal woes with musician Brian Evans have taken a turn after Evans spoke out against extortion allegations made by the comedian.
In a statement made to TMZ on Sunday, Sept. 20, Evans said he was not at fault for Carrot Top’s suicide attempt on Friday, Sept. 18, despite the comedian’s attorney Ronnie Bitman ‘s court filings on Sept. 3, in which he claimed Evans demanded Carrot Top pay him $500,000 in return for an alleged sex tape.
Carrot Top’s attorney claimed Evans emailed his client stating that he would give the court system the USB containing Carrot Top’s sex tape “so that it may be obtained and disseminated by the press and other parties.” However, Evans told TMZ that the alleged recording was already deleted from a USB drive. He also claimed he never attempted to blackmail Carrot Top for half a million dollars.
“I never threatened – ever – to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement. … The video they are discussing – as I made very clear – was deleted a long time ago in accordance with the prior settlement,” Evans told TMZ of Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson .
“I do not consider Scott to be a bad person … based on what I know – but he made a few decisions that were not good ones. That is not a reason to hurt himself,” continued Evans, adding that he was “sorry that Scott apparently did something to hurt himself.”
“Finally, it’s not my fault … that Scott did what he did. We don’t even actually know what he did. He survived and I am glad about that,” Evans continued. “Scott is still young and has a big life ahead of him. It’s not my intent to bring this guy down. It’s the opposite.”
Carrot Top and his attorney filed their claim against Evans in Broward County, Florida, Page Six reported. Evans was a previous opening act for Carrot Top during his residency at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Vegas, where he has performed his prop comedy shows since 2005.
As InTouch previously reported, Carrot Top attempted suicide on Sept. 18 in Las Vegas. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remains under medical care . Carrot Top was scheduled to perform his prop comedy show on Friday and Saturday but cancelled the shows following his health crisis.
