Woman injured in Des Moines shooting, suspect arrested and firearm recovered
A woman was injured and another woman was arrested after a shooting Thursday afternoon at an apartment complex in the 6300 block of Urbandale Avenue in Des Moines.
Des Moines police said they received two calls shortly before 4:30 p.m. One caller reported hearing a gunshot and someone scream. A second caller reported that someone had been shot.
Officers found an adult woman with a gunshot wound to her arm. She was taken to Methodist Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police Sgt. Paul Parizek said.
Police later recovered a firearm they believe was used in the shooting after a woman reported finding backpacks dumped on her property. Officers then found the suspect hiding near trash cans close to the shooting scene.
The suspect was taken into custody. Police said she and the victim knew each other, but the circumstances leading up to the shooting remained under investigation. Charges were expected later Thursday evening.
Police said there was no ongoing threat to the neighborhood.
