Iowa man sentenced to 30 days in prison after wrong-way crash with sheriff's deputy
A Coralville man who hit a Linn County deputy’s vehicle head-on while driving the wrong way on Highway 100 in February was sentenced to 30 days in prison and two years probation after pleading guilty to operating while intoxicated.
As part of the plea deal, 69-year-old Scott Rohwedder’s other charges were dismissed, KCRG reports.
On Feb.4, a Linn County deputy spotted Rohwedder’s Dodge Dakota traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Highway 100 near Edgewood Road at 7:40 p.m. The deputy crossed the median and attempted to stop Rohwedder, at one point kicking his vehicle, but Rohwedder continued driving until he hit the deputy’s SUV head-on on the Highway 100 bridge over the Cedar River.
Court documents show Rohwedder had a blood alcohol level of .231 at the time of the incident.
The deputy sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Rohwedder has faced three OWI charges dating to 1999, KCRG reports. Court documents show he was convicted of operating while intoxicated in Johnson County on March 22, 2023.
