Wellston firefighter dies battling 260-acre fire in Lincoln County
A Wellston, Oklahoma, firefighter has died on duty after helping battle a 250+ acre fire in Lincoln County.
Officials with Lincoln County Emergency Management shared that while responding to the Monday afternoon fire, one firefighter experienced a medical emergency and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. They announced later that day the firefighter died from his injuries.
Information on the firefighter has not been released.

"It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of a Wellston firefighter, whose life was lost yesterday while battling a large fire," Lincoln County Emergency Management said on Facebook. "Please keep the Wellston Fire Department, the fallen firefighter's family and friends, agencies on scene that assisted, and all those affected in your thoughts and prayers."
The fire started outside of Carney, Oklahoma, near 820 Road and 3330 Road. At this time, emergency management estimates the fire burned over 260 acres with multiple crews on scene responding to the fire.
Several agencies have shared their condolences with the family of the deceased and the Wellston Fire Department.
