ORISKANY — The Oriskany Museum, at 420 Utica St., will host a presentation by historian Bob Moore and museum curator Alexis Albright, “A Journey to Summit Park,” about the village’s former amusement destination that operated from 1897 to 1926. The event — which is free and open to the public — will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17. The park, which was situated on the bluffs overlooking the village, once boasted a merry-go-round, rollercoaster, amphitheatre, dance hall, games of chance, among other amenties, according to event organizers. This summer will mark 100 years since the park’s final season. The presentation will center around Moore’s latest 3-D computer model, which brings the original Summit Park to life based on original photographs, first-person accounts, 20th century aerial images, and topographical maps. Albright will expand on some of the unique conditions that spurred the development of the park, as well as details of Seward Baker’s development of the park and the adjacent “Oklahoma” neighborhood.
