Woman accused of setting fire to home while her 4 children were inside

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA/Gray News) - Police arrested a woman in Louisiana accused of attempting to set a house on fire while her children were still inside.

The Shreveport Police Department arrested Krystal Bromsey following an aggravated arson and child cruelty investigation.

The investigation began at about 10:45 p.m. Aug. 1, when officers responded to reports of a house fire. Dispatchers were told that a woman was allegedly attempting to set the house on fire, assaulting her children, and chasing them down the street.

Bromsey was located at a nearby intersection, and the four children, ages 11, 12, 13 and 17, were also found.

A Shreveport fire investigator determined that gasoline from a gas-powered weed eater had been poured onto the kitchen stove, causing it to ignite.

Investigators interviewed the children, who all identified Bromsey as the person responsible for starting the fire.

During the investigation, officers also learned of a separate incident reported to have occurred on July 29, 2026, in which Bromsey allegedly poured hot water onto one of the children and struck the child with a shoe, a frying pan and her hand.

Bromsey was sent to a local hospital for medical evaluation before being taken into custody.

Bromsey was charged with four counts of cruelty to juveniles, one count of domestic abuse battery, one count of criminal neglect of a family and one count of aggravated arson.
