Two people dead after vehicle plunges into bayou during chase

Police in Orange say two people are dead after a high-speed pursuit that began in Louisiana ended with a black Mercedes crashing through a guardrail, rolling over, and plunging into Adams Bayou Saturday night.

According to investigators, Sulphur Police Department officers were chasing the Mercedes westbound on I-10 when the pursuit crossed into Texas. The vehicle exited at mile marker 877 around 9:45 p.m.

Investigators say the Mercedes was traveling at a high rate of speed as the driver attempted to navigate the Adams Bayou turnaround. Moments later, the car slammed through the guardrail, overturned, and sank into the bayou.

Officers rushed to help, but the vehicle was submerged. After crews pulled the Mercedes from the water, searchers found the bodies of both the driver and a passenger inside.
