ND Special Olympics in Bismarck.ND Special Olympics in Bismarck BISMARCK, N.D.(KFYR) - Law enforcement officers joined Special Olympics athletes Friday to carry the Special Olympics torch to its final destination in Bismarck.Even with the strong winds, runners officers, athletes and others made their way from the front steps of the Capitol to Scheels at Kirkwood Mall, with a police escort. The winds also kept the torch from being lit.The Special Olympics torch was carried across the state this week, making its final stop in Bismarck.Organizers say the Law Enforcement Torch Run helps raise money for Special Olympics North Dakota athletes, including Jesse Christensen.“Probably my favorite part is just how all of the athletes just come together as like brothers and sisters,” said Christensen.Jesse will compete in the men’s 100-meter dash and the long jump.Jen Frankeberger says her favorite part of the Special Olympics is celebrating inclusion.“And also bridging the gap between our athletes and law enforcement. And we just want the athletes to know that their law enforcement partners support them,” said Frankeberger. The Special Olympics North Dakota Summer Games start Saturday at Fargo North High School.Copyright 2026 KFYR.All rights reserved.
