The Maine State Police charged a Brunswick man with murder on Friday following a September 1 shooting at his home.

On September 1st, the Brunswick Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at 5 Valerie Avenue in Brunswick.
Police arrived to discover James Smith, 48, of Brunswick, dead at the residence.
The Office of the Maine State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and allegedly determined that Smith’s death was a homicide caused by a gunshot.
Keith Brunelle, 58, the resident of the home, was arrested following the incident and charged with a bail violation.
At the time, he was transported to the Cumberland County Jail, but was released after posting bail.
The investigation continued after Brunelle’s release, and eventually led the Maine State Police to secure a warrant for his arrest charging him with murder and criminal use of explosives.
He was arrested without further incident at a residence in Augusta and transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
