Will there be a senate debate between Graham, Andrews? Here’s what we know

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Dr. Annie Andrews is challenging Republican interim Sen. Darline Graham to a debate ahead of the general election.

Andrews announced that her campaign has accepted News 12’s sister station, FOX Carolina’s invitation to a live, televised debate, but claims her opponent is unwilling to debate.

To track the challenge, Andrews launched a campaign initiative called “Debate Me Darline.”

“I believe it’s a sign of a really unhealthy democracy that there’s even a question of whether or not there would be a series of live, televised debates in this race for essentially an open U.S. Senate seat,” Andrews said. “...We haven’t heard a peep from her.”

On Wednesday, Graham’s campaign team issued the following statement to FOX Carolina:

FOX Carolina previously sent invitations to both candidates. They have received signed confirmation from the Andrews campaign. Graham’s campaign confirmed they received the invitation.

FOX Carolina proposed the candidates’ debate the week of Oct. 12 and it would be televised and streamed on Gray Media stations across South Carolina.
