2 hospitalized after staircase collapses inside Montgomery County home

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Two adults were sent to the hospital after a staircase under construction collapsed inside a Rockville, Maryland, home on Thursday.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), crews were called just before 4:30 p.m. to the 1400 block of Bradley Avenue for a reported structural collapse.

Fire officials said the staircase was in the middle of being built inside the home when it collapsed, hurting a man and a woman who needed help getting out.

Both people were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered severe.

Officials clarified that the home itself did not collapse. The incident was limited to the stairwell, which was under construction.

The fire department is trying to find out what led to the collapse.
