Oklahoma Sen. Warren Hamilton hosts interim study on AI risks to children
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA (KOKH) — Oklahoma Senator Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, recently hosted an interim study looking into the potential dangers of AI that effect children.
In 2026, Hamilton introduced legislation that would look to limit the use of AI chatbots that interact with minors, such as utilizing parental management tools.
“The overarching purpose of this study was to find ways for us to better protect children, who are among the most vulnerable,” Senator Hamilton said. “As we enter the age of artificial intelligence, we must meet the moment. We can’t bury our heads in the sand. AI is here to stay, and we need to recognize its benefits while also understanding and addressing the societal problems that can come with it."
Ryan Montgomery, founder and CEO of Pentester.com and a cybersecurity expert, spoke at the study that was held before the Senate Technology and Telecommunications Committee.
“While AI can be useful in some instances, it can be corrosive in others," Hamilton added. "It is our job as leaders to make sure we are incorporating this technology in the right way while protecting our young men and women. I appreciate our presenters and committee members for their attention to this important issue, as well as Senate staff for their hard work in making this study possible. The goal is not to stop technology or prevent innovation. The goal is to make sure we are being responsible stewards of these tools and doing everything we can to keep our children safe.”
